One of the largest private automobile museums in the Czech Republic was established in the village located 17 km from Benešov and 50 km from Prague. Visitors have the opportunity to admire almost a hundred cars from the period 1948-1989. The museum thus presents a comprehensive collection of vehicles that could be encountered on our roads in the second half of the last century. These are not only cars of Czechoslovak origin, but also cars from the entire former Eastern Bloc. Apart from the cars produced in the RVHP (Council for Mutual Economic Assistance) countries, of course, we cannot miss the dream Western cars sold in Tuzex only to the chosen ones.
RETROAUTOMUSEUM is the result of many years of collecting. The museum's collection consists not only of the "traditional" representatives of vehicles from the socialist era, i.e. the Škoda, Trabants, Ladies, etc., but also representatives of all the main and lesser-known manufacturers of the former Eastern Bloc. The museum is founded by the civic association OSUD (Civic Association for the Preservation of Automotive Heritage). Unlike many projects that emerge from the current fashionable retro-wave and come into being almost as quickly as they disappear, the RETROAUTOMUSEUM aims to present the technical heritage of the past through modern forms of museum presentation. This is also reflected in its efforts to be accepted into the Association of Museums and Galleries of the Czech Republic and its successfully developing cooperation with the Military Technical Museum in Lešany near Týnec nad Sázavou.
The museum's exposition consists of several exhibition units supplemented by a number of dioramas. One of the main parts entitled "From wrapping to velvet" is dedicated to the phenomenon of the automobile, which accompanies us literally throughout our lives. At a time when some types of vehicles were produced virtually unchanged for two decades, people could encounter their various variants throughout most of their lives. The museum presents this reality to visitors in a modern and entertaining way.
Of course, the museum also offers various accompanying programmes. Today's modern interactivity of museum exhibitions is perfected in our case. In which museum do you have the opportunity to take a demonstration ride in one of the exhibits? And not as a passenger, but directly behind the wheel of the car. We believe that there is nothing like personal experience when exploring historic vehicles of the recent past. The test vehicles will be continuously renewed and you will be informed about the current type on our website.
